The Gem-A Gem Testing and Diamond Grading facility finally closed in late 2008 when the money required for the updating of the equipment proved impossible to raise in the face of the then worsening economic situation. Gem-A thanks its Members and clients who made use of the lab facilities in the past and hope that the provision of laboratory services might be possible again in the future.
The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) is proud to provide a London take-in service for Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Laboratory Services to our Members and the UK Trade. Please note, this service is for diamonds only. Stones are sent securely to the GIA Lab in New York to be graded.
This consolidator service, offered in the UK for the first time, gives the UK trade easy access to GIA Diamond Grading Reports. Two shipments a month are made by Brinks direct to GIA and the usual turn-around time will be up to 42 days.
The fees for the service will be the advertised GIA report charge plus a consolidated handling, shipping and insurance charge of £60 + VAT for each diamond. This fee provides a considerable saving over the cost of shipping stones to GIA individually.
Consolidation for a full range of GIA diamond grading and diamond identification services will be offered. Details are available from Alan Clark at Gem-A on 020 7404 3334 or alan.clark@gem-a.com.
Details of the GIA Diamond Report fee structure can be found here.
