Examinations

A high level of practical observation and testing is demanded in each of our courses and reflected in our exams.

As an awarding body in its own right, Gem-A qualifications are accredited at high levels to provide and test knowledge and understanding for meaningful self-reliance for academic, hobby and industry progress. Gem-A examinations benefit the trade and industry, collectors and hobbyists, wherever a deeper insight helps people cope with today’s increasing use of synthetics and treatments and with many other interesting gem problems.

Exam Sessions

All of our main exam sessions are held in January and June, and candidates must submit an examination entry form by the dates required from their chosen exam session in order to register. For January examinations, forms will be available from August and must be returned to Gem-A by 31 October. For June examinations, forms will be available from February and must be returned to Gem-A by 31 March. Examination centres may vary from session to session, depending on availability and candidate numbers. For details of local examination centres, please contact the Gem-A Education department directly. Upcoming examination dates are listed below.

Exam Entry

Exam Entry forms can be found on the Resources for Download page.

Exam Appeals

A student who receives their exam results and who would like further information of that result, please read the Appeals and Malpractice Procedures document outlining the procedures we have in place.

Once a student has made a decision as to which of the procedures they would like us to follow, please download and complete the form which instructs the Gem-A staff accordingly. These services will be chargeable, the details of which can be found on the form. Exam Appeal Forms and Exam Entry Forms can be found on the Resources for Download page.

Any student who would like to appeal against their grade but is unsure of which of the procedures to request, please contact the Gem-A Exams Officer at exams@gem-a.com.
